Preventing Violence In the Home

How do you provide helpline details to a woman who’ll be beaten if they’re found?

With an award-winning idea (D&AD, Cannes Lions, London International Awards) to make an everyday sticker that masquerades as a barcode. These faux barcodes, with a helpline number in place of the usual code, can be put on any domestic object and go completely unnoticed by controlling partners.

With these, there has been an unprecedented increase in the acceptance of helpline details from GPs and help centers who give them out to at-risk patients. AND international governmental and NGO agencies are also wanting to adopt the program.

Stick the barcode on any item in your house, like a box of baking soda, or in your handbag, like a notebook, so you will have the number hidden but also at hand if you need it.

I continued working with Preventing Violence in the Home to find more insightful ways to spread awareness.

Victims of domestic abuse rarely tell the whole story, but some signs give them away. This clever poster reveals the whole story when you look close enough.

At first glance, the posters appear to be a happy letter to a friend, but if you look closely, you will realise that the lines of the notepaper seamlessly continue the story and reveal the heartbreaking truth of the situation.

Three different stories were written to bring attention to the fact that domestic violence may be happening to anyone you know, and you noticing the signs may be what it takes for them to seek help.

Quirky, slightly kitsch art direction for the letter design was intentional to have cut-through in ad placements that normally have slick design.
